EVENTS & ACTIVITIES
Every now & then, you can find us at a community event with information & free reading materials. We offer apparel & some other small items to assist us with fundraising in order to effectively minister to others. The Bibles are free, as well, & we enjoy the time spent chatting with everyone!
December, 2020
God’s creation never ceases to amaze! Gene’s been able to show his mother an albino deer that’s been hanging around her place throughout the Summer & has been seen during December, as well. The young deer seems to be content with staying put in a small area.
November 2-7, 2020
On August 15, 2020, the PGC held the annual drawing for the PA Elk seasons. Gene was blessed to be drawn for a cow hunt to take place from Nov. 2-7, 2020. In the early morning hours of Friday, Nov. 6th, Gene tagged out on an adult cow. The week proved to be an awesome experience & now Gene (Fur Reel Outdoors) will be at the round table with the PGC & PA’s legislators to change the drawing format to provide further opportunities for special needs, disabled, terminally ill & less fortunate people along with non-profit organizations that provide outings (hunts) for said folks. Gene says, “We’ll see what we can do. I have a few ideas spinning in my head & welcome others as they come along.”

Gene & Shawn manned the wild turkey station at the Clarion County Sportsmen for Youth Field Day. Shawn is the owner of Millcreek Valley Game Calls & asked Gene to be on the promotional staff, with a concentration on safety, biology & education. Many new & future turkey hunters were in attendance!

We doubled the amount of backpacks loaded with school supplies for FRO’s “Pack to School” program, this year. 20 packs were donated to the local school district for less fortunate kids from Kindergarten to 3rd grade.

Haylee, Gene & several awesome volunteers hosted 7 busloads of PA Special Olympics athletes to an afternoon of fishing at the Quemahoning Recreational Area. A great time & some “first fish” were caught & released! There were up to about 50 individuals fishing at a time while others enjoyed yard games.

Gene manned the turkey station at the Clarion County Sportsmen For Youth Field Day. This is one of the largest PA YFDs with 450 kids!

On Friday evening, Gene sits with a youth member of Nevin’s Hunting Friends as he archery hunts for a doe. They watch as this one is given a pass. She could use some age & a bit more meat on her bones.
October 19-20, 2018
We once again assisted with Nevin’s Hunting Friends PA Youth Hunt. Some of the boys “skun out” a deer in preparation for the long car ride home.
October 12-14, 2018
Haylee & Gene traveled to Morganfield, KY to assist another outdoors ministry with a deer hunt for ‘at risk youth.’ Gene provided spiritual messages for the participants & their families throughout the weekend. His hunter, Isaiah, tagged out early on the first morning.

Pack to School: We were able to prepare & donate 10 elementary backpacks to the area school for students in need.

Youth Field Days 2018
June 23, 2018 – PA RMEF Fishing Derby (Youth Outreach Event)
Fur Reel Outdoors was asked to co-host this day of fishing for youth! Gene Alwine presented a brief introduction. The participants were geared up, tackled up, baited up & were on their way to catching a variety of pond fish!

Gene spoke to a local Cub Scout Troop about wild turkey biology & vocalizations. He gave each kid in attendance a call of their choice…crow call, barred owl hoot or a kee kee call. They were very attentive & had some good questions. The adults loved it, as well.
